How Your ISP Accesses Your Device

TR-069 / TR-369 Protocols: This is a standard industry protocol built into almost all ISP-provided routers and modems. It creates a secure backdoor channel that lets the ISP remotely update firmware, change Wi-Fi settings, and run diagnostics without your intervention.

Custom Firmware: ISPs install their own modified software onto the device before giving it to you. This software overrides standard administrative privileges, which is why your own admin access is often restricted.

Provider Apps: If you use an app from your ISP (like Xfinity, Spectrum, or AT&T) to manage your Wi-Fi, those commands are sent from the app to the ISP's servers, and then pushed down into your router.

What Your ISP Can See and Control

Device Settings: They can view and change your Wi-Fi name (SSID), password, and security protocols.

Connected Devices: They can see a list of every device connected to your network, including MAC addresses, device names (e.g., "John's iPhone"), and signal strength.

Network Performance: They monitor your data usage, connection speeds, error rates, and uptime.

Web Traffic (DNS Queries): Unless you encrypt your traffic, your ISP can see the domain names of the websites you visit, even if you use a personal router.

Use Bridge Mode: Log into your ISP gateway and turn on Bridge Mode (or IP Passthrough). This disables the ISP's router functions and turns the device into a simple modem. You then plug a personally owned router into it to run your home network.

Buy Your Own Modem & Router: Replace the ISP hardware entirely with compatible retail devices. This also usually saves you money on monthly equipment rental fees.

其实不仅是光猫，现在很多智能家居也是这样，表面上是你在用，后台权限全在人家手里。以前大家还折腾改桥模式自己拔号，现在运营商直接把光猫搞成固件锁死的，你连改个桥接都得求客服。长此以往，以后家里连个真正属于自己的局域网都没有了，所有设备都在人家的监控网络里裸奔

最有意思的是spectrum的router自动是spectrum的热点。我自从加入spectrum知道这个窍门后爽死了，走在街上遛弯一上午百分之八十的时间都在wifi上
这个功能可以uncheck 关闭 但是绝大多数不懂任何it的人家不知道怎么关。所以现在因为这个原因我最喜欢spectrum了

Xfinity Internet鼓励你用他们的Cable Modem。那其实是个Router+Modem，Xfinity会在上面运行 Xfinity Wi-Fi 让所有Xfinity用户共享。很聪明，也很鸡贼。

因此我坚决不用 ISP 提供的猫和路由。我本地有 xFinity，我有两套猫可以工作在 xfinity 上，另外还有 Frontier，我不用他们的路由，只用了他们提供的 Moca adapter (这个我自己也有，不过 isp 安装时说不能安装我自带的设备）

搞笑，too simple, sometimes [too] naive，用自己买的CPE(customer premise equipment)当然也会／必须被ISP操控，那叫out-of-band management。。。光从legal/financial liabilities角度讲，哪天客户自己买的CPE跑在ISP网络上，因为ISP不掌控／管理，被黑客root了去黑了霉帝政府／critical infrastructure／花街，霉帝政府不罚死ISP，你个霉滑个人有多少油水，death penalty都不够解恨的

我过去用自己的路由在Xfinity 上。但我觉得Xfinity 有歧视：也是docsis3.1,但自己的路由隔一阵需要重启，速度也不能超过1gps. 而Xfinity自己的就能上1.2gbps, 也从来不会需要重启。

你说的是Xfinity给你的route提供public WIFI吧，这个正常，人家就靠你家来布hotpot的网店，设备免费给你用，也是有代价的

你可以接一条Ethernet Cable从Xfinity 路由器 LAN port 到你自己的router （设成access point) 来broadcast你自家的SSID 与password。
重点是，用一大张（或多张）铝箔纸把Xfinity 路由器包起来，Xfinity 路由器发的 WiFi讯号就出不去了，而且Xfinity毫不知暁。

這不是意料之中嗎？ 現在有很多人都不知瀏覽器把他們的隱私奉獻得乾乾靜靜。ISP能進他們的設備是應該的啊。

还OOB需要物理console port，63了吧？VPN和VLAN知道吗，怎么OOB就必须独立物理网口？
