二月初拿到turing后全家飞过去看了一下学校，也见了教授，turing的学生带着参观:
1. CS前10门课都是honor课，大概30人小班教学；找系里最好的教授单独上课；
2. 每年大概会来 60个孩子，住在honor quad dorm, 关系会很好；1/3外州（大部分加州）， 2/3 德州本地；
3. 必须跟教授做research, thesis defense; 很多会接着读phd;
4. 校园很安全；austin也是很fun的城市，有很多high tech companies; 方便找intern; 很多小孩freshman就找到internship.

整个下来女儿就很喜欢。觉得会受到特殊照顾，feel to get an elite education in a big public school.
论坛上有turing家长能谈谈亲身经历吗？

家长喜欢upenn:
1. ivy school with more prestige;
2. do double degree: cs + math (or economy);工作出路也不错。不知道能不能修wharton的课？
听了大家的分析，现在有点担心安全问题。

ucla cs 也不错，州内学费，但是听说都是几百人大课，要抢课。

估计最后家长能做的只能是给孩子讲清楚利弊，让女儿自己选了。

upenn 安全 是有点问题。校方 也尽力去做了。每个 十字路口 一个 警察。但感觉 还是 。。。

最好 实地去一趟 考察一下吧，也要 呆四年的。网上 再怎么说 不如实地 去一下，然后 特别是 晚上 在街上走走

IMHO, the so-called Turing program is a gimmick.
Don't get me wrong. UT-Austin has a top notch CS program but it won't give you the same experience as undergraduate student as private schools.
It just simply won't regardless how they market their program.

Undergraduates certainly can do research and often do if they are good.

Austin is just like any other Texas city -- big, dusty, hot, and no water.

CS students do internship easily regardless of locations.

听着 UTA不错。 class size很重要。挨着大公司。机会很多。

Penn 因为安全问题，我闺女根本就没申请。

今天第一个开upenn就中了；然后princeton and columbia waitlist; yale 被拒。
今年的申请季总算结束了。
现在手头有 JHU engineering, ucla cs (州内）, ut austin cs turing honor program, upenn engineering， gatech cs

女儿自己想去uta turing（州外）;家长喜欢upenn。
该怎么选呢？
