The cost of driving is almost the same, isn't it - the old car depreciates less per year but has higher cost of maintenance.
for my 2017 legacy - $1000 depreciation per year plus $500 for the next 7-8 years
new 2025 Camry - $1500 -2000 depreciation per year?

别跟我说新车可以做按揭，二手车不可以。这只对上班族有效。真正的贫下中农、穷学生，不会买新车。因为这些人根本做不了新车按揭 —— not qualified。他们只会买二手车。而二手车，又分两种：一次过的 cash car，或者做按揭。做按揭的，一般是比较贵的二手车 (10K+)。二手的 Hyundai Accent，能做按揭的，全美估计不超过100台。因此，真正的贫下中农、穷学生，一般都是买5k以下的 cash car（常见是2k-3k）。

买低档新车的，通常是初入职场的小伙子。有 pay check 就可以做 loan。买太贵的车不舍得，买二手又觉得寒碜。而且没有修车经验，买二手车始终不放心。

Well my legacy did great in snowy days - one year, i was on on highways for a 400mile trip with heavy snow and wind - saw hundreds of cars/SUVs and trucks slippering into the highway trench or side-curb and I survived through without getting into any danger....

xyzcrai 写了： 2024年 10月 17日 18:34 Awd不装雪胎对爬坡影响不大，因为有后轮帮助，但下坡和刹车时跟fwd没区别。雪胎的作用更重要的是能刹住车不打滑。我在北方雪最多的地区很多年也没用雪胎，但有一次下坡带拐弯的路四驱的suv也差点儿打滑失控。后来大车换了新四季胎，前驱的小车开始用雪胎，明显感觉小车在雪上更稳。你既然有带人carpool的需要，雪胎对人对己都是划算的。真正的成本也就是每年换两次胎。
