The share of Americans with incomes between $30,000 and $80,000 who now have taxable investment accounts. Half of them entered the market in the past five years, according to a survey released by Commonwealth and the BlackRock Foundation. For decades, Americans with low to moderate incomes sat on the sidelines as stocks rallied. Yet in recent years, they’ve jumped in—accounting for a higher share of investors with retail brokerage accounts than ever before.
