A single bit can be in the state
(1,0)or (0,1)
Two bits can represent the 4 states
(1,0)(1,0),

Two (entangled) qbits can represent the states
(1,0)(1,0),
(0,1)(1,0),
(1,0)(0,1),
(0,1)(0,1),
(0,0)(1,1),
(1,1)(0,0)
I'm obviously simplifying a bit since there is also superposition but in short the entangled qbits form a single quantum system with new states. You get the idea.
