Schweden, Dänemark und Deutschland werden anders als geplant keine gemeinsame Ermittlungsgruppe zur Untersuchung der Lecks an den Nord-Stream-Pipelines bilden. Nach SPIEGEL-Informationen lehnte Schweden die Einrichtung eines internationalen »Joint Investigation Team« (JIT) ab. Nach Angaben aus Sicherheitskreisen soll Schweden die Ablehnung damit begründet haben, dass die Sicherheitseinstufung seiner Ermittlungsergebnisse zu hoch sei, um diese mit anderen Staaten zu teilen.

Sweden, Denmark and Germany will not form a joint investigation team to investigate the leaks at the Nord Stream pipelines. According to SPIEGEL information, Sweden rejected the establishment of an international Joint Investigation Team (JIT). According to information from security circles, Sweden is said to have justified the rejection with the fact that the security rating of its investigation results was too high to share with other states.

Die Bundesregierung hatte schon kurz nach der Sabotage-Aktion Ende September entschieden, dass sich deutsche Ermittler an der Aufklärung beteiligen sollen. Bundespolizei und Bundeswehr schickten vergangene Woche zwei Militär-Boote an eine der Schadensstellen. Dort wurde eine »Sea Cat«-Unterwasserdrohne zu Wasser gelassen. Schweden hatte den Tatort südöstlich der Ostseeinsel schon vorher inspiziert und am Meeresgrund auch Beweismaterial sichergestellt.

Shortly after the sabotage operation at the end of September, the German government decided that German investigators should participate in the investigation. Last week, the Federal Police and the Bundeswehr sent two military boats to one of the damage sites. There, a "Sea Cat" underwater drone was launched. Sweden had previously inspected the crime scene southeast of the Baltic Sea island and secured evidence on the seabed.

Von Schwedischer Seite war zunächst keine Stellungnahme zu erhalten. Der Sicherheitsdienst verwies an das Justizministerium. Das Justizministerium verwies an den Sicherheitsdienst. In Berlin hieß es zu der schwedischen Ablehnung, man erhoffe sich dennoch eine Zusammenarbeit mit dortigen Behörden.

Bisher gibt es über Hintermänner der Sabotageaktion nur Spekulationen. Klar ist lediglich, dass es am 26. September unter Wasser mehrere massive Explosionen nahe dem Verlauf der beiden Nord-Stream-Pipelines gegeben hat. Die Detonationen waren so heftig, dass mehrere Institute, die normalerweise Erdbeben beobachten, deutliche seismische Ausschläge registrierten. Die deutschen Behörden gehen nach einer ersten Analyse davon aus, dass dafür eine Sprengkraft vergleichbar mit 500 Kilogramm TNT benötigt wurde.

So far, there is only speculation about those behind the sabotage action. What is clear is that there were several massive underwater explosions near the course of the two Nord Stream pipelines on September 26.

The detonations were so violent that several institutes that normally observe earthquakes recorded significant seismic eruptions. After an initial analysis, the German authorities assume that an explosive force comparable to 500 kilograms of TNT was required.

Aufgrund der Komplexität der Attacke wurde schnell gemutmaßt, dass nur ein staatlicher Akteur als Täter infrage kommt. Spekuliert wurde, dass Russland selbst die Pipeline zerstört habe, um die Gaspreise weiter in die Höhe zu treiben. Moskau streitet dies vehement ab und bezeichnete den Angriff auf die Pipeline stattdessen als Terrorismus gegen Russland.

Due to the complexity of the attack, it was quickly assumed that only a state actor could be considered as the perpetrator. There was speculation that Russia itself had destroyed the pipeline in order to drive up gas prices further. Moscow vehemently denies this, calling the attack on the pipeline instead terrorism against Russia.
