Just saying hello
It's been a wild year
JEFF JACKSON
FEB 17
I’m Jeff Jackson, and I’m a first-term member of Congress in North Carolina.
Each week, I try to give people a look into what life is like as one of the new guys in Congress.
And, well, it’s been a wild year.
Narrowly avoiding default, the Santos saga, near-misses with government shutdowns, unlikely alliances, serving on the Armed Services Committee and the Science, Space, and Technology Committee, getting a bill passed - even a congressional hearing on UFOs.
I write these updates myself and I don’t send people anything I wouldn’t want to read.
As a result, this has become one of the most widely read newsletters from Congress. That’s surprised me, but it’s also become a part of the job I’ve really enjoyed.
One more thing you should know:
About four months ago, our state legislature re-drew the congressional map for our state. In the process, they targeted me and drew me out of my district. That’s called gerrymandering, and our state has had a terrible history with it for decades.
That means this will be my one and only term in Congress.
With the year I have left, it’s my mission to do this job as well as it can be done, and part of that means using the platform I have to inform people about what is really going on in D.C.
I also made the decision to step forward for the job of Attorney General.
Our current AG, Josh Stein, is running for Governor. I’m a former prosecutor, army JAG officer, and legislator, so I think I understand how to be effective in a job that is basically about using the law to stand up for people. Defending your voting rights and reproductive rights, fighting scammers who target your bank account, and tackling the fentanyl epidemic are going to be major priorities.
That was a lot to give you all at once, so I’ll stop there.
It would be my pleasure to keep you posted, and please be in touch (by hitting reply) anytime.
Best,
Jeff Jackson
P.S. - Was proud to represent Charlotte for the congressional baseball game, but our team came up short in the end. Looking forward to giving it another shot this year.
