Poland to bid for Summer Olympics in 2040 or 2044
Poland will bid to host the Olympic Games in 2040 or 2044, the country's prime minister Donald Tusk has announced.
The nation has never hosted an Olympics before. It was unsuccessful in its bids for the Winter Games in 2006 and 2022.
"I dedicate this decision to the 10, 12 and 15-year-olds of today. Poland will officially bid to host the Olympic Games," said Tusk.
"The realistic prospect, given the decisions, commitments and preliminary statements of the International Olympic Committee, is that we can talk about 2040 or 2044."
Last year, Poland's president Andrzej Duda said he intended to submit a bid for his country to host the Summer Olympics in 2036.
Poland hosted the European Games in 2023, while it also co-hosted the 2012 European football Championship with Ukraine.
Germany is also planning to bid for Berlin to host the 2040 Olympics.
