Washington and Beijing have begun discussions about a potential "birthday summit" in June in the U.S. between President Trump and Chinese leader Xi Jinping, according to people familiar with the matter.
The discussions, which the people say are in the early stages, come as the Trump administration is ramping up tariff and other trade measures against China. This strategy aims to build leverage for negotiations with Beijing.

"President Xi has invited me to China, and we'll probably be doing that in the not-too-distant future," Trump told reporters in the White House's Oval Office. "A little bit out, but not too distant. And I've been invited by a lot of people, and we'll make those decisions pretty soon."
Trump and Xi's aides have discussed a potential meeting during Trump's trip to Asia later this year, Reuters has reported, citing two people familiar with the matter. Discussions included a possible Trump stopover around the time of the APEC summit in South Korea or talks on the sidelines of the October 30-November 1 event.

2025年6月，日本共同社的报道称，中国计划邀请特朗普参加9月3日的纪念抗日战争胜利80周年阅兵式。
现在，9月3日的纪念大会阅兵式已经结束，特朗普没有出席。所谓的“生日峰会”与“阅兵峰会”都已经被证伪。
看来，特朗普指责某些主流媒体为“fake news”，还是有点道理的。
