A stretch of northbound Interstate 680 in Fremont will be closed this weekend for a bridge rehabilitation project, according to Caltrans.
Northbound traffic will be directed off the freeway at Mission Boulevard/State Route 238 starting Friday night. Partial lane closures will start at 8 p.m., with the full closure set to kick in at 10 p.m. Lanes are slated to reopen by 5 a.m. Monday, according to Caltrans.
Crews will be spending the weekend working on “critical bridge and pavement repairs,” Caltrans said.
“These 55-hour closures are necessary to safely and efficiently complete key construction activities, including full bridge deck resurfacing and approach slab repairs,” Caltrans said in a statement. “This phase of work involves heavy machinery and the resurfacing of the entire bridge deck. This work must be performed without live traffic to ensure worker and motorists safety. Concentrating these operations during weekend closures will help reduce the overall duration and impact of the project.”
Motorists should plan ahead and use alternate routes. Caltrans provided the following detour directions for motorists seeking to get back on northbound I-680.
- Exit northbound I-680 onto Mission Boulevard/State Route 238
- Turn left toward northbound Mission Boulevard/State Route 238
- Continue on Mission Boulevard/State Route 238
- Turn right onto Niles Canyon Road/State Route 84
- Continue on State Route 84
- Turn right onto the northbound I-680 on-ramp
- Merge and continue on northbound I-680
